AMUSEMENT park bosses have thanked firefighters for their quick actions as a fire broke out on Canvey seafront last night.

Huge flames and a plume of black smoke could be seen as crews tackled the flames at Leisure Island Fun Park in Eastern Esplanade yesterday at around 8pm.

The amusement park has since issued a statement, confirming crews quickly brought the fire under control and some of the park has been damaged as a result of the blaze.

A spokesman for Leisure Island Fun Park said in a social media statement: "Tonight there was a fire at Leisure Island Fun Park.

"Due to the very quick action of the Fire Brigade the fire was dealt with very quickly.

"There was some damage to the park but thankfully no one was hurt or injured.

"We did lose our toilet block, first aid room, baby changing area and compactor area but these things can be replaced. The main thing is everyone was safe.

"We will be going through our CCTV system to establish how the fire started."

Fantasy Island, the separate amusement park next door, will be open as normal today as bosses at the park also thanked firefighters for keeping its "customers, staff and business safe".
