A MAJOR crash has shut the A127 with long delays and heavy traffic building all the way back to the Fortune of War roundabout near Basildon with motorists being advised to plan their journeys before travelling.
The crash took place on the westbound carriageway of the road near the junction with Dunton Wayletts - with it not yet being known if any vehicles have been involved in the crash or if there have been any serious injuries in connection to it.
The carriageway after the junction is currently closed.
There is also heavy traffic building all the way back to the Fortune of War roundabout on the edge of Basildon.
Due to the considerable delays between Basildon and the M25, motorists are being advised to plan their journeys before travelling.
UPDATED: A spokesman from Essex Police said that a motorcyclists has been taken to hospital for treatment, suffering serious but non-life threatening injuries.
A 38-year-old man, from Upminster, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and remains in custody for questioning.
The road has since been re-opened to traffic.
