A primary school in South Essex has been forced to close because of a "complete loss of water supply to the school" due to a burst water main.

Arthur Bugler Primary School, in Stanford-le-Hope, is closed today as bosses say they were left with "no other choice" but to shut following the urgent issue.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Mr Turner wrote: "On Sunday morning, our Site Manager discovered a burst water main on the school grounds.

"Emergency repairs are currently being carried out, but unfortunately, the severity of the issue has caused a complete loss of water supply to the school.

"As a result, I am left with no choice but to close the school tomorrow, Monday, September 16, for both students and staff.

"This decision is based on the health, safety, and hygiene risks, which must remain our top priority."

The school stresses that they are "doing everything" in their power to ensure the school can reopen as quickly as possible.

Mr Turner added: "While we are hopeful the repairs will be completed tomorrow, we cannot confirm this just yet.

"I will provide an update by lunchtime tomorrow regarding the reopening of the school.

"In the meantime, we are working to provide online learning resources to minimise disruption to your child's education. These will be added to the website in due course.

"Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this challenging time. Your patience is greatly appreciated as we work to resolve the issue safely and swiftly."
