Plans for contactless “tap and go” payments across the C2C line which were delayed due to a cyber attack still have no confirmed date to roll out.
The south Essex rail network had announced the launch of the system, initially planned for September 22, had been postponed due to the attack due to an ongoing cyber security incident at Transport for London (TfL).
TfL have now confirmed there is no current date for the system to be implemented, but are working with the Department for Transport and the Rail Delivery Group to reschedule the launch.
Customers had previously complained about broken ticket machines as well as issues with smartcards and mobile apps.
The new “tap and go” system had been outlined as a solution to many of these issues.
Shashi Verma, TfL's Chief Technology Officer, previously said: "The security measures we are taking mean that it is now not possible for us to deliver the necessary system changes to enable 47 additional stations outside London - including 15 stations on the c2c network - to benefit from pay as you go with contactless on September 22 as planned.
"We are working with DfT and the Rail Delivery Group to reschedule and we apologise for the delay."
