Firefighters have tackled a car on fire in Southend- with the cause recorded as "deliberate."

Residents living around Grainger Road in Southend described hearing "an explosion" last night as the car was set on fire.

One resident claimed that it "shook my house". 

A spokesman for Essex Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to a car fire in Grainger Road, Southend yesterday at 10.10pm.

"One crew from Southend attended and extinguished it. The cause has been recorded as deliberate.

"Crews left the scene at 11.24pm."
