A ONCE dilapidated shop on Billericay High Street has been transformed into a vibrant new “lounge” – combining elements of a coffee shop, pub and restaurant.

Maggio Lounge has opened in the site of the former M and Co, next to WH Smith and opposite Kodak Express.

The old clothing retail store has been redecorated with heavily patterned wallpapers, tiling and striped wooden floors alongside vintage sofas, upholstered lounge chairs, artwork and new lighting to create a “cosy and elegant” dining experience.

The lounge has paid “particular” attention to families with a selection of games, books, colouring pencils and pads on offer, alongside a full children’s menu and high chairs and changing facilities available.

Thomas Keauffling, general manager at Maggio Lounge, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the good folk of Billericay through the doors of Maggio Lounge. “It’s a wonderful community and we’ve been made to feel very at home already with some lovely feedback.

“We’re looking forward to meeting everyone and to getting involved in this great neighbourhood.”

Billericay West Tory councillor, Phil Turner, has wished them all the best for the future.

He said: “Any business putting an investment into our High Street must be welcomed because so many high streets are dying on their feet, this is not a small investment, for that to come here.

“You can only thank your lucky stars, we are very lucky where Billericay is quite vibrant and is being sought after.

“Good luck and I wish them well, I will eat and drink there in future.”

Gemma Irwin, head of community at Lounges, added: “We hope our family friendly environment and top-notch food and drink offering will prove popular with local residents.

“We’re passionate about integrating genuinely into the communities we serve so we’re looking forward to meeting everyone and to playing our part at the heart of Billericay’s food and drink scene.

“Anyone looking for a space to host events or groups should pop in once we are open, we’d love to hear from them and see what we can do to help.”
