Earlier this week, the new manager of the beloved Shoebury Hotel was unveiled ahead of its reopening.

Here is everything we know about the new bosses and the reopening of the iconic venue.

Billy Smith, the son of the former owner of Southend's Smithy's pub, and his partner Caroline, were confirmed this week as the new managers.

The Shoe Bar and Eatery, based inside the historic building, was closed last month by former managers Andy Dosser and Michelle Marrs following financial struggles.

Residents, devastated by this turn of events, later launched a petition pleading for the Shoebury Hotel to remain as a pub and restaurant after its closure.

Nick Kenney, the owner of the building, later revealed that the site will remain a bar and restaurant after new managers were secured.

The venue is now undergoing major refurbishment works before its reopening later this year - a date which will be revealed in due course.

Billy, the new manager, is the son of the late Ted Smith, who owned Smithy’s public house on Eastern Esplanade.

He grew up at the heart and soul of Southend’s nightlife and managed the family business over many years.

Billy is now looking forward to welcoming the community back into the popular pub.

He said: “I am extremely excited to be involved in the next chapter of this historic landmark building.

“I bring with me years of experience working with my father Ted, and a friendly, warm smile.

“My mantra is to create an inviting and family-friendly environment, welcoming locals and customers further afield.

“We have some great ideas for activities and events, in what will be a fresh, new look and feel for the building.

“Clearly from the petition, there has been a demand for this local icon to continue, so I look forward to meeting everyone in the coming months.”
