The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain across all of south Essex and large parts of the UK.

The forecaster has said the county can expect heavy rain on Monday, and have warned of “impactful rainfall” in the area.

The warning is in place from 12am to 11.59pm, with areas across south Essex, including Southend and Thurrock, expected to be affected.

The Met Office has also warned residents roads could be left flooded, while the weather could also created difficult driving conditions

They have warned:

  • Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
  • Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible

A Met Office spokesperson said: “Areas of heavy rain are expected to affect many parts of England and southeast Wales during Monday.

“There is still some uncertainty regarding which areas will be affected by the heaviest rain, but at this stage parts of the south Midlands, southern and southwest England look most likely to see the greatest accumulations - see separate amber warning.

“However, anywhere within the warning area could have impactful rainfall through the course of Monday.”

The forecaster warned there is potential for 30-50 mm of rain to develop in any part of the warning area.

It added the majority of this could fall in six hours or less, while some locations could see 80-100 mm over the next 12 to 24 hours.

The south Midlands, and parts of southern and southwest England have been issued with an amber warning for rain.

There will be a maximum temperature of 21 C today, and a minimum temperature of 11 C tonight.
