The diversion is the latest impact from the ongoing works on Southchurch Road to upgrade existing gas pipes.
Having begun in late July, the works have been estimated to last around five months, prompting concern from local residents and businesses over fears of disruption.
Phases 1-3 of the works being carried out by the Cadent gas network will see various sections of Southchurch Road closed. The following phases will cause disruption to westbound traffic from Tesco Express to the junction with Queensway.
There is currently no end date to the bus route diversions announced by Arriva.
