A MOTHER and son duo have teamed up to open a new pilates studio in place of a former mortgage brokers in Leigh.
Studio Switch, the brainchild of Nicola Seabourne, 54, and her son Nathan Seabourne, 24, opened after they struggled to book pilates sessions and spotted a “gap in the market”.
After moving into the former Mortgage Simple building in London Road, close to Waitrose in Leigh, they have invested £40,000 in renovating the building and are now hoping the business venture will be a big hit.
They have also purchased reformer machines and specialise in reformer pilates – a low-impact exercise to improve posture, increase flexibility and strengthen core muscles.
Nathan, a gym instructor, is hoping to bring his expertise to the business and helping the people of Leigh get fit and active.
Nicola said: “All everyone keeps saying is there are no place in Leigh to do Pilates, and they are so glad we have opened a studio there.
“We thought we would just give it a go. My husband did all the work in the shop which saved us a lot of money.
“It’s been pretty good, we just really want to get the word out there.
“Pilates helps build you core, tone you up, it’s an all-round good exercise. Come along, it’s good to make new friends, get fit and active, and it also helps your mind.”
Nicola said she and her son had never planned to open a business, but jumped at the chance after noticing there was an opportunity.
The studio currently employs five instructors and offers four classes catering to all experience levels.
It currently sports seven reformer machines which help provide a full body workout.
“We hope to help the community more and get more people through the doors,” Nicola added.
“Hopefully, we can continue our success and maybe one day opening another studio.”
The studio opens over two parts of the day, from 7am till noon, then 6pm till 9pm on weekdays, and 8am till noon on weekends, then 6pm till 9pm.
