THE first of dozens of new homes on the site of a former 114-bed care home have been completed, marking a major milestone in the project.

The former Ghyll Grove Care Home, off Ghyllgrove Close, was fully razed to the ground last year and is being replaced by 34 new homes for both shared ownership and private sale.

Developer Sempra Homes will unveil the initial stage of its Ghyllgrove Place project on Saturday, October 12 and open the first show home of the development.

To mark the milestone, Adele Brown, the deputy leader of Basildon Council, visited the site to cut the ribbon on the newly completed show home.

Ms Brown said: “I am delighted to see the show home completion at the Ghyllgrove Place development, marking a vital step in Basildon’s journey to provide high-quality, sustainable homes for our residents.

“This project not only revitalises a previously disused site but also offers a variety of housing options.

“I am proud of the partnership between Sempra Homes, the council, and our stakeholders that has made this possible.”

The homes are designed to meet national space standards and include private gardens, parking spaces with electric vehicle charging points, and energy-efficient appliances.

The development will include six four-bedroom properties, 24 three-bedroom homes, and four two-bedroom homes.

Of these, 24 will be offered for private sale, while the remaining 10 will be available on a shared ownership basis.
