A BRAVE four-year-old girl has returned to school and is fighting fit after fracturing her skull and spending a week in intensive care.

Nancy Langley, four, was hit by a van on Broadmayne, Basildon, last month and was rushed to hospital with the devastating injury.

The crash, which left Nancy with a bleed on the brain, a fractured skull and multiple cuts and bruises saw her in intensive care for a week in Royal London Hospital.

At the time, Nancy was walking to her childminders with her mum, Ella Langley, and two-year-old sister Freya Chalkley.

The family were initially left petrified that the crash could have a lasting impact, but Nancy is now back to her normal self.

Nancy is now back in school and the school are giving her extra breaks as she continue and get back to full health.

Ella said: “I am just relieved, looking at her you would never think that anything happened to her, all the superficial wounds on her face are gone and she had grazing and scratching that is also gone, she does have a small forehead scar.

“I am very surprised as well, I am proud of how Nancy has handled it like it never happened and she has come back as normal, the only difference I can see is she is a bit more tired but she has just started school.

“She is back to her normal self and happy, a bit shy around people that aren’t family, maybe her confidence has been knocked a little bit.

“There have been so many changes, with school and the accident, it has been hard to tell.”

Ella added that she had a month off work as a result of the crash and that the long term effects of the crash on Nancy remain unknown.

The skull fracture could has lasting impact as she continues however the moment the family are happy with her progress.

She added: “I had a month off of work and I was not dealing with it quite well.

“I got back to work last week, it did help slightly and I am getting back to it.

“People did come together for us and for Nancy, I am not sure what the next steps are are but we are trying to get on with normal life.”
