Youngsters are set to meet Santa Claus and his helpers as a magical steam train journey - just a little over an hour away from south Essex - is returning for 2024.

Popular rail company Steam Dreams has announced the return of The Santa Steam Express for its fourth year of merriment, offering families a chance to meet the man himself on a steam train departing from and returning to London Victoria.  

The extra-special journey will depart four times a day on Friday December 20 and Saturday December 21. 

Santa and his elves will jingle their way through the festively decorated vintage carriages during this one hour and 30 minute adventure around London.

Children will be welcomed on board with a drink and a sweet treat before meeting Santa and his elves with their bag of gifts.

Parents are encouraged to advise Steam Dreams of the age of the children travelling to ensure they are given a suitable gift, as well as lettting them know if they are bringing a pushchair as it will need to be stored.

Adults will be also be treated during this enchanting trip, with a mince pie and mulled wine or tea and coffee. 

And a copy of the International Elf Service North Pole Star newspaper with up-to-date stories and announcements from the Christmas Workshop, written by the Elves, will be handed out.

Steam Dreams offers exclusive private compartments for up to six people which date from the 1950s with elegant wood-panelling, opening windows and period features. 

Club and coach class seating is in festively-decorated 1950s or 1960s carriages, with tables for four.

Both adult and children tickets range from £55 while first class compartments can be booked for £550.
