Three south Essex men have been jailed after burgling a jewellery store on Canvey before fleeing away on the A127 at speeds of up to 110mph.

Basildon brothers, Ricky Wilson, 30, and Daniel Wilson, 27, along with Scott Flemming, 29, were sentenced at Basildon Crown Court on September 27.

They had all previously admitted to stealing £1,300 worth of jewellery from Paradise Jewellery, in Furtherwick Road, Canvey, on May 9, 2022.

The court heard how the trio parked in Lionel Road, not far from the jeweller’s, at 1.45am before approaching the front of the store.

Ricky Wilson used an angle-grinder to break through the shutters, before he and his brother Daniel then used a hammer to smash the window glass.

Ricky then began scooping £1,300 of jewellery on display into the holdall, held by Flemming.

They ran back to their car and drove off, overtaking an Essex Police vehicle on Canvey Way.

Officers began a chase, which continued on to the London-bound A13 and, eventually, the A127 at speeds of up to 110mph.

However, they called off their pursuit on public safety grounds. Ricky Wilson was arrested the following day, and the two other men were arrested later.

Det Con Emma Taylor, of Castle Point and Rochford CID, said: "Commercial burglaries are rare on Canvey but when they do happen, they are distressing for all those affected.

“And they harm people’s livelihoods as the loss of business and the cost to put right the damage caused often far outweighs the value of the goods stolen.

“Not only are they prolific offenders but the Wilson brothers and Flemming also showed a blatant disregard for the safety of other motorists when Ricky Wilson reached speeds of up to 110mph as they escaped from the scene of their crime.

“However, they are now off our streets and behind bars where they belong.”

Ricky Wilson, of Pattiswick Square, was jailed for a total of 38 months for burglary and for dangerous driving, a charge which he had also admitted at a previous hearing.

He was banned from driving for 54 months, ordered to take an extended retest should he re-apply for a licence at the end of his ban and ordered to pay a £190 court surcharge.

Daniel Wilson, also of Pattiswick Square, was jailed for 22 months for burglary and ordered to pay a £156 court surcharge.

While Flemming, of no fixed address, was jailed for 18 months for burglary and also ordered to pay a £156 court surcharge.
