Three south Essex companies have been named and shamed by HMRC for more than £290,000 worth of unpaid tax between them.
HMRC publishes details every three months of people and businesses given financial penalties for failing to comply with tax obligations or deliberately filing errors in tax returns.
Details are only released when a person or business has made at least one deliberate default on more than £25,000.
The latest list was released this past week.
Among those named and shamed was restaurant firm Thai Enterprises Essex, trading as Vibe formerly of 93 Leigh Broadway, which was hit with penalties totalling £53,997.67 after racking up defaults amounting to £93,909 between September 2017 and January 2020.
Laundry company HJ Design Ltd, formerly of Charfleets Road on Canvey, was listed as defaulting on £126,531.35 of unpaid tax from April 2020 to April 2022, and was hit with penalties of £101,225.08.
Takeaway firm Brit Fried Chicken, formerly of Station Gate, Laindon, was named as defaulting on £70,529 during an almost three-year period between June 2017 and May 2020, and was charged with penalties of £44,432.64.
