A REMARKABLE 16-year-old with a truly inspiring outlook on life has been presented with an award by Prince Harry.

George Shippey met the Duke of Sussex at the annual WellChild Awards on Monday night after winning the “inspirational young person” title.

The youngster, from Billericay, has several complex medical conditions including muscular dystrophy and scoliosis. He faces daily challenges and frequent hospital visits but does it all with bravery and determination.

As part of the council, he shares his own experiences and suggests ways to adapt sports to make them more accessible to everyone

Kerry, his mum, described George as a “true warrior” who has a “truly inspiring” outlook on life despite the difficulties his condition presents every day.

She said: “We were so incredibly proud of him; it was just one of those moments we’ll treasure forever. To see him presenting his own speech was wonderful.

“It means everything just to be recognised in the first place.”
Each award winner got to spend time with the Duke of Sussex, who is also a patron of WellChild.

In a speech at the ceremony, Prince Harry said: “Congratulations to tonight’s award winners. Thank you for your courage, your perseverance, your kindness, and of course your humour.

“Thank you for being you and uplifting all those around you.

“This evening, we come together not only to celebrate that remarkable resilience and spirit, but also to recognise and thank the unsung heroes.

“The superhero parents, carers, siblings and professionals who work tirelessly and selflessly to ensure these young people have the best lives possible. You are all incredible, and your love and dedication are nothing short of heroic.”

The event was the 13th to be attended by the Duke, who assists with raising awareness and funding for the charity.
