Members of 2nd Rayleigh Scout group have marked the organisation’s 100th birthday – complete with a royal seal of approval.
Adults past and present, including one who has been involved for more that 65 years, joined in the celebrations with long-service certificates handed out to dedicated members and a visit from Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford.
The group is considered the only one in the Crouch Valley District to have reached a centenary continuously supporting young people into adulthood.
Group spokesperson Karen Malcolm said: “Members have been really honoured to receive a letter from the Head of Royal correspondence on behalf of King Charles congratulating them on their centenary year.”
Also in attendance this month were Sarah-Jane Page, chair of Rochford District Council and Marianne Vernon, chair of Rayleigh Town Council.
The celebrations in September followed on from a celebratory family fun day in June at Belchamps Scout site.
