SIX fire crews from across Essex tackled a blaze at a fish and chip shop which rapidly spread to the roof of the building.
Firefighters were called to a fire in a fish and chip shop in Ingatestone on Friday night at around 7pm.
The fire started in the deep fat fryer and quickly spread up the extraction system to the roof.
An additional four fire engines and one aerial ladder platform was requested to help tackle the blaze, which was put out by 8.39pm.
Firefighters stayed at the incident for many hours, using the aerial ladder platform to check for any remaining hot spots.
All six crews, from Chelmsford, Billericay, Brentwood, Ongar, Great Baddow, and Grays, left the scene at 2am on Saturday.
The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental.
