Wickford Market has made a triumphant return, with its highly anticipated relaunch over the weekend.

The day was filled with excitement as the heart of Wickford came alive once again, welcoming back residents, new visitors, and a variety of local traders to the bustling marketplace on Saturday.

The event, hailed as a resounding success by Wickford Town Council, saw the community come together to celebrate a new chapter for the historic market.

The relaunch was much more than a return to normal—it signified a new beginning for Wickford Market, which has been a key feature of the town for generations.

This fresh start comes after a period of uncertainty and changes, including months of controversy that led to the departure of several long-standing traders earlier this year.

The market’s future was in question after disagreements over trading times and rising costs for stallholders since Wickford Town Council assumed control in June.

However, thanks to a new partnership with Love Markets, a company with a proven track record of running successful markets, the relaunch signals a fresh start.

With the aim of revitalizing the market, Wickford Town Council and Love Markets have introduced a refreshed line-up of stalls and added a new trading day, with the market now open on both Thursdays and Saturdays from 9am. to 3:30pm.

The relaunch event was packed with festivities, ensuring there was something for everyone.

From live entertainment by Jukebox Jules and performances by HSD Dance and Talents Theatre School to family-friendly attractions like face painting, balloon modelling, and superhero visits, the market was buzzing with activity.

This lively atmosphere set the tone for the market’s new direction, which aims to cater to the entire community.

Wickford Town Council expressed their gratitude to the residents who came out in full force to support the relaunch, stating that the event's success was driven by the community’s enthusiasm and involvement.

Traders also expressed optimism about the changes, welcoming the wider variety of stalls and the focus on locally produced goods and handmade crafts.

A spokesman for Wickford Town Council added: “We are committed to making Wickford Market a thriving space for everyone.

“Going forward, we plan to build on the success of the relaunch with regular events, promotions, and activities to keep the market vibrant and engaging.

“Once again, thank you to the residents of Wickford for making the relaunch day such a success.

“Your support and involvement are what keep the spirit of our town alive, and we are excited about what the future holds for Wickford Market.”
