POLICE will be using live facial recognition technology in Southend across four days as part of a new operation to stamp out violent incidents in the city.

As part Essex Police's "sustained and significant" crackdown in response to recent incidents of violence across Southend, including a stabbing in Eastwood at the weekend, residents will see a very visible presence across the borough in the coming months.

During this new police operation, the force's live facial recognition vans will be used in Southend on October 13, 14, 18 and 21.

A spokesman for the force said: "Tackling this type of crime is a priority for us and we are working hard to deal with it.

"As part of this work, we will also be deploying our Live Facial Recognition vans in Southend on 13, 14, 18, and 21 October.

"If you see is in the area on those days come and say hello!
