BIG-name comedians and TV stars will be descending on Westcliff as the overhaul of a popular bar into a comedy club and venue continues.
Ross McGrane, comedian and radio presenter, purchased Westcliff Drinks Co in Hamlet Court Road alongside friends John Oakes and James Beatty last month.
Since, the trio have been working hard behind the scenes to organise a stellar line-up of events, including their first comedy night tonight.
The sell-out event include Live at the Apollo comic Terry Alderton - who has appeared on Pointless Celebrities and Celebrity Mastermind, as well as fellow Live at the Apollo comedian Laura Smyth.
A rebrand will see the bar renamed “Up the Road: The Comedian’s Cocktail Lounge” on November 1 and a number of other events planned.
Ross said: “We’ve had an incredibly successful first month in charge, our first comedy night is tonight and is completely sold out.
“It’s featuring Southend lad and Live at the Apollo comic Terry Alderton, tickets are on sale for other comedy nights as we speak.
“Confirmed acts include TV comedians Laura Smyth, Mark Simmons and more.”
Ross added that tickets to these events can be purchased at the bar’s new website, baruptheroad.com Ross said: “We have confirmed Russell Kane for an exclusive book signing event on October 30, he’s launching his first ever kid’s book ‘Pet Selector’ and this the only confirmed signing in Essex.
“A full rebrand and relaunch is planned for 1st November, details on which to follow next month.”
The venue’s bookings for the rest of the month alternate between their Thursday comedian’s quiz nights hosted by stand-up comedians and Wednesday’s comedy club events, operating a more classic stand-up night with £10.50 tickets.
Ross has previously spoken of a focus on cocktails at the venue, with the bar offering unique recipes - such as Ross’ pumpkin spiced espresso martini and the morello cherry espresso martini.
