The RSPCA has launched a heartfelt appeal for donations to help a senior cat with severe health complications in South Essex.
Ragetti arrived at the RSPCA Essex South, Southend and District Branch with multiple health issues, including the potential for cancer.
Staff say that his case is unfortunately not straightforward. While the eye injury was the most obvious concern, there are many other issues that need addressing.
The branch has launched a special appeal for Ragetti to help raise funds for his ongoing treatment and recovery.
Ragetti, named after the one-eyed pirate from Pirates of the Caribbean, was found with a severe eye injury and no known owner.
After surgery to remove the injured eye, veterinary professionals discovered that the tissue might be cancerous, and samples have been sent to the lab for confirmation.
Unfortunately, Ragetti's health concerns don’t end there. A hard lump on his neck was identified, which initial tests suggest is inflammation, but cancer remains a possibility.
Further complicating his condition, Ragetti is severely underweight, with a body condition score of just 1-2 out of 9. He is also very anaemic, though the cause remains unknown.
His vision in the remaining eye is uncertain, and he could become completely blind.
Despite these challenges, Ragetti remains a sweet and friendly cat, capturing the hearts of the veterinary team.
However, his care comes with significant costs. The RSPCA branch is asking the public for help, noting that even the smallest contribution can make a difference in Ragetti’s treatment.
They said: “Times are difficult for everyone, we know, but every £1 helps. If you are able to help support Ragetti's surgery and recovery, we would be truly grateful.”
Donations can be made through the RSPCA Essex's JustGiving page, where all contributions will go directly to supporting Ragetti's care and recovery.
