With the chilly winter weather officially here, we have narrowed down the pubs and bars where Southend residents can get a welcome cold one.
These venues all have something to offer to suit everyone’s tastes, and we have decided on five for you to enjoy this weekend.
Ten Green Bottles
Rectory Grove, Leigh
This popular restaurant and bar offers specialty beers along with mouthwatering food.
The venue also boasts live music from Thursday to Sunday, and has proved a big hit with residents.
One reviewer on TripAdvisor called the bar a “real gem.” They said: “Back to the UK for a flying visit and always like to drop in here.
“Great music and super friendly staff always make it a fun night out.”
The Cork Dork
The Ridgeway, Leigh
This wine bar has proved very popular with residents, and offers customers a cheese board and charcuterie board.
The venue offers over 100 different wines, and will serve these to patrons alongside various snacks.
A reviewer on TripAdvisor said: “Just wanted to say thank you for an incredible day yesterday and the double birthday extras. My brother and I loved every single minute of your bottomless cheese, wine and desserts.
“The service was incredible and the food just delicious. Music was wonderful and the whole ambience surpassed expectations.
“You are a real hidden gem that we will be spreading the word about. From a family that know a lot about hospitality and lovers of cheese and wines we were wowed. Thank you so much.”
Legra Tap and Kitchen
London Road, Leigh
This brewery offers award-winning beer from Leigh-on-Sea Brewery and delicious street food from Black’s Kitchen.
The brewery produces a range of craft beers, while the kitchen offers innovative street food which will leave your mouth watering.
A review on TripAdvisor read: “I’ve been eating and drinking at Legra for a while now. I love everything about the place, the owner has bent over backwards to accommodate me and my family a few times when we’ve not booked or turned up just after food orders have finished.
“The staff are knowledgeable and courteous and it’s never a problem to sample a new cider or ale on tap. The food is cracking too, a small but tasty menu always keeps me coming back for more.”
The Alex
Alexandra Street, Southend
One of the friendliest pubs around, The Alex is open from breakfast until the early hours, and is a great place to have fun with your friends.
A TripAdvisor reviewer said: “The pub was clean and well decorated. We went for a bottomless brunch and had an amazing time with great value for money. Becky was very attentive bringing our drinks and was a very good laugh.
“The food cooked by James was lovely. We both had the breakfast which was served hit and fresh. Would definitely return. Well done guys.”
