TWO people have been rushed to hospital following an incident at Shoebury seafront this morning and one is in a "serious condition".

The East of England Ambulance Service and other emergency services went to Common Road, Shoebury, before 9.30am this morning, following reports of two people “in distress in the water”. 

The HM Coastguard was also in attendance and received "multiple 999 calls" about a "tender" dinghy that had "capsized".

Three ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a paramedic car, three hazardous area response team vehicles, and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance helicopters were called to the incident.

RNLI lifeboats and the coastguard helicopter helped search the area for the two people.

Essex Police was also in attendance.

The emergency services worked together to get the people ashore.

One man in a serious condition was transported by air ambulance to St George's Hospital London.

A second man was transported by road ambulance to Southend Hospital.

A HM Coastguard spokesman has commented on the incident.

They said: "Two RNLI lifeboats from Southend, the Coastguard helicopter, Helimed and the Coastguard Rescue Teams from Southend and Canvey Island went to the scene.

"One of the two people was able to make it to shore on his own. The second was recovered from the water by the coastguard rescue teams.

"A Coastguard paramedic was winched down to assist and the casualty was taken to hospital by Helimed.

"The East of England Ambulance Service, HART officers and Police also attended the scene."
