A NEW bigger and better Greggs store is set to open at Basildon town centre's bus station this week.

Work has been underway for several weeks at the previously empty site.

The new store will replace the existing, smaller Greggs at the bus station and incorporate extensive indoor seating.

Basildon resident Roy Davis spoke to workers including the manager who confirmed the new shop is opening on Thursday.

The fresh images show a large, open interior with plenty of room for indoor dining. The existing nearby site had faced criticism from residents over a lack of dining space and long queues during busy periods.

Labour councillor Patricia Reid said: “Any extra employment coming into the town is a bonus and encourages people to use the facilities in the town.

Basildon Council are currently pushing forward a wide-reaching regeneration scheme for the town centre and are aiming to attract more big-name companies to the area.

The town centre has seen the arrival of a Vue cinema, a Nando’s restaurant and Lounger’s Orleto Lounge as part of the ongoing regeneration.
