A TEACHER has set up a fundraiser pleading for help to raise £30,000 for a much-needed minibus at her school to help children “experience learning beyond the classroom”.

Shane Rowland, who teaches at Greensted Primary School in Basildon, believes youngsters at the school would have access to more opportunities if the cash can be raised.

If successful, he hopes to organise educational trips to museums, nature reserves and cultural attractions to benefit the curriculum, as well as help sports teams attend matches and competitions.

As things stand, the school does not have access to a minibus and Mr Rowland fears children are missing out on experiences other youngsters have at school.

He said: “As a teacher, I see how much our students gain from experiences beyond the classroom.

“A school minibus opens the door to countless opportunities, whether it is educational trips, regional sports events, or cultural excursions. These experiences build confidence, teamwork, and resilience, helping to develop life skills and broaden their horizons.

“For many of our children, these trips are opportunities they may never otherwise have. The minibus would ensure every student, regardless of socioeconomic status, can participate.

“It is not just about transport, but about expanding their world and giving them a well-rounded education.”

In the appeal to the public, it is stressed that any contribution, no matter how small, will bring the school closer to reaching its goal.

Mr Rowland added: “Thank you to everyone for the support. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to making this dream a reality.”

The fundraiser adds: “This minibus will be more than just transport – it’s a tool for expanding horizons, boosting self-esteem, and creating lasting memories for the children at Greensted.

“By contributing to this campaign, you’ll directly help make these opportunities possible for our children.”
