AN INDEPENDENT salon owner who took the leap to launch her own business at just 21-years-old is celebrating after scooping a top award.
Chelsea Chambers, 29, saw her Beauty and Shed Clinic, on Sutton Court Drive, Rochford, named the “Best Beauty Salon” in Essex at England’s Business Awards during a glitzy ceremony at the Raddison Blue Hotel at Stansted Airport.
The salon started from humble beginnings eight years ago as Chelsea, who began working in the industry at the age of 19, pounded the pavement with homemade leaflets to spread the word.
Despite the difficulty getting the business off the ground, and obstacles such as the Covid pandemic impacting her business, she has credited the backing of her loyal client base for getting her to this point.
She said: “I didn’t expect to win, I just sat there for a few minutes, I didn’t quite believe it at first, thinking ‘is this real?’”
“It’s just an amazing feeling, I never thought I would be able to get to this point.
“I didn’t have any clients, but it was always something I wanted to do. I really wanted to go for it by myself.
“I got leaflets done, I was walking the streets and putting them through doors, it just gradually built up through word of mouth to where we are now.
“It’s been hard work, a lot of blood, sweat and tears. The long hours, late nights, to win an award like that, you feel like it’s all worth it."
Chelsea would only have one-to-two customers a week at the start, but she would take the challenges day-by-day.
She has thanked her family, friends and loyal clients “who keep coming back,” and added they were very important to her success.
She said her customers had become like friends after so long seeing them, and added she caters to clients from the ages of 18 to 90.
Services provided at the salon include manicures, pedicures, massages, laser hair removal, facials, micro-needling, waxing, hot stone massages, aromatherapy, eyelashes.
