A much-loved Southend restaurant has been hailed as the "best in the area" as sad customers react to the owners stepping down.
The Pearl Dragon, on Eastern Esplanade, first opened its doors back in 1978 and has been run by the Yeung family ever since.
Yuen Yeung launched the restaurant after noticing a gap in the market in Southend, and the business was passed on to his children, who have helped it become a hit in the city.
Brothers Steve, Jimmy, and John Yeung, alongside sister Linda Law, have announced their retirement from the business for the final time on October 27.
The announcement has sparked an outpouring of sadness from loyal customers.
Clare Baker reminisced about celebrations at the restaurant, saying: "So many fond memories of going to this restaurant going back to the 80’s, so many celebrations attended there.
"The Christmas party nights were truly memorable. Wishing the family a happy retirement."
Gord H Ch eadded: "I always tell people it is the best Chinese restaurant I have ever used anywhere in the world because it is, and everyone I have ever brought here agrees.
"Enjoy retirement, you really deserve it."
Mandini MC shared similar sentiments, writing: "One of the best in the area, had many lovely meals from there."
Paul Battle thanked the family, noting: "Four generations of our family have been fans of your restaurant since the 80’s, we will miss you.
"Have a great retirement."
Despite the closure, the Pearl Dragon will continue under a new London restaurateur, reopening on October 30.
The restaurant will retain the name and offer the food that has helped it become so well known.
Other Echo readers also shared their memories with the family.
Sandra Field stated: "So sorry to hear this. We have dined there many times over the years, been to parties and funerals there.
"Thank you to all the family who have worked so hard to make this the Premier Chinese Restaurant in Southend. Enjoy your well earned retirement ."
Eileen Carter reflected on her decades of dining at Pearl Dragon, added: "The food has always been excellent, staff brilliant and would not go anywhere else for a Chinese."
