Three people are due to appear in court to be charged today in connection with a crash in Basildon which left a man seriously injured.

Uppermayne was shut off by police shortly before 11.40pm on October 10, 2022 after it was reported a car left the road and hit a tree before being driven at by a second vehicle, following an "interaction" with another vehicle.

A man sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Three people were arrested and two of them have now been summonsed to appear at court.

One of those due to appear at court is Hollie Dance, mother of Archie Battersbee who died in Southend in 2022.

Dance, 48, of Alton Gardens, Southend has been summonsed to face charges of GBH with intent, dangerous driving, possession of a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid, gas, or electrical incapacitation device or thing.

Thomas Summers, 24, of Alton Gardens, Southend has been summonsed to face charges of GBH with intent, criminal damage, possession of a Class B drug, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, and intentionally encouraging or assisting the commission of an either way offence.

A second man arrested has been told he faces no further action. A fourth person was voluntarily interviewed.

Rhys Bentley, 23, of Norwich Avenue, Southend has been summonsed to face a charge of GBH with intent.

All three are due to appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court today.
