Read on to discover some of the cosy south Essex pubs that will warm you up this weekend, according to our readers on Facebook:
The Plough and Sail, Paglesham
Located just a stone throw away from the banks of the River Roach, The Plough and Sail has been owned by the Oliver family since the mid-20th century - once run by Jamie Oliver's grandparents on his father's side.
The pub has remained faithful to its roots and serves homecooked food and real ales from the heart of the Essex countryside.
The Plough and Sail dates it’s history back 300 years and with log fires and homely interiors is the perfect place to relax this weekend.
The Angel Inn, Shoebury
The Angel Inn is nestled on the edge of north Shoebury and occupies a former collection of quaint cottages.
This traditional country pub has everything you’d expect, including beautiful flagstone floors, high quality furnishings and a wonderful atmosphere.
What’s more, the open fire and selection of real ales, Guinness and draught lagers makes The Angel a truly charming pub.
The Bell Inn, Horndon
Having been run by the same family for over 75 years, The Bell Inn is the place to go if you’re looking for high quality service and undeniable local character.
The pub is situated in the historic village of Horndon on the Hill and began serving customers in the 15th century as a coaching inn.
Today, The Bell Inn has two busy bars that both boast the warm and friendly atmosphere of a “proper pub”. Visitors can enjoy an open fire, ales and a carefully curated wine list.
The Hoop, Stock
The Hoop markets itself as offering an alternative to the purely traditional pub experience. The pub has no fruit machines or TVs and instead encourages visitors to enjoy the atmosphere and connect with one another.
Booking is highly recommended at this very popular pub, and guests can also take advantage of an enclosed beer garden boasting an outdoor pizza oven.
The Hoop stocks a selection of gastro pub food, real ales and wines from around the world, making it a delightful choice for a cosy weekend visit.
