The council has issued a warning of a new text message scam targeting Southend residents.
Southend Council have confirmed the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have reported a scam SMS text message being circulated relating to the Household Support Fund.
The message advised that the resident was eligible for £900 under the scheme and instructed them to click a link, pay £1 and offer their bank details to receive the money.
The council have advised residents who receive this message to report it by forwarding the message to 7726.
