A MAN has been jailed for four years after admitting to making threats to kill and controlling and coercive behaviour following the tragic death of a Basildon woman.

Charlotte Randall, 39, was admitted to a London hospital four days after being found unconscious at an address in Elsenham Crescent, Basildon on March 10 this year.

Despite the best efforts of doctors, Charlotte died on March 14.

Joshua Robinson, 33, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to four years in prison at Basildon Crown Court today for making threats to kill, and two years for controlling and coercive behaviour, running concurrently.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe said: “This has been a challenging and distressing case for Charlotte’s family.

“We ask you respect their privacy at this time.

“Coercive and controlling behaviour is a cruel and manipulative crime for which Robinson has rightly been given a custodial sentence.

“My officers have worked diligently throughout this case and I’d like to thank them for their commitment in securing these charges.”

Robinson, who was 32 at the time of being arrested and has been charged with threats to kill and controlling or coercive behaviour, was also given a ten-year restraining order.

In a statement following her death, Charlotte's family said: “Our beloved, kind-hearted and caring Charlotte leaves an irreplaceable hole in our lives.

"She lit up the lives of everyone who had the blessing of knowing her.

"We will forever feel her absence."
