An X-Factor star from Basildon has set his sights on cracking the US after he auditioned for hit reality show American Idol.
Che Chesterman, 28, who lives in Langdon Hills, has confirmed he flew to America for the show trials and is looking to test himself against other talented singers.
The singer, who finished third at the X-Factor in 2015, said Basildon has really become his home since moving back to south Essex from London, and hopes to fly the flag for the town on the US show where singers compete for a record label deal.
The father-of-three credited his dad, Che senior, who died in 2020, for everything he has achieved so far and said it is “every singer’s dream” to break out in America.
Speaking as he awaits news on whether he will progress, Che said: “When the opportunity to audition for American Idol came about, I had to jump at that, it’s a big opportunity.
“I’ve watched the show since I was a child, I grew up watching it with my dad. It’s a dream come true without a doubt.”
Che had previously attended South Essex College in Southend and said the school had helped him with nerves when performing on stage.
He added his love for singing had been fostered by his father since the age of six, who noticed his talent and encouraged him by introducing to the work of various musicians, as well as singing exercises.
“My career will always be dedicated to my dad, growing up he was always singing, he showed me everything I know about singing today,” Che added.
“I would love for him to have seen it, I hope he might give me that strength I need to get over the line. He is everything I know and everything is down to him.”
The singer, who has established a significant following on Instagram and TikTok since his breakout appearance on X-Factor in 2015, said he has enjoyed making videos and reaching out to a new generation.
He called the experience competing in X-Factor “amazing” and still fondly remembers reaching the final and singing at Wembley.
Che said he had taken a step back from musical pursuits to be with his family, but is now ready to get back in the groove and hopes to take America by storm.
