Echo reporter George Pizani visited The Quirky Bird Café to taste what’s on offer and see what goes into running a successful cafe.

After pushing a pull door, I walked into Westcliff’s The Quirky Bird Cafe and immediately felt at home.

The eccentric but welcoming interior design felt like stepping into a familiar environment and I was delighted to see a menu packed with attractive and no-nonsense dishes.

I was served by friendly mother-and-daughter duo, Lisa and Molly Griggs, who went above and beyond to make my visit comfortable and satisfying.

After some browsing, I settled on the smothered chicken and waited.

I tried the dish’s main component first; a succulent chicken breast loaded with sweet BBQ sauce, bacon and cheese.

Served with homemade chips and salad, it was a real pleasure.

Feeling full to bursting I said my goodbyes and made a mental note to revisit the cafe, feeling confident that I could recommend a visit to any one of my friends.

The cafe is currently working on an updated winter menu, and I will definitely be revisiting to try it out very soon.
