A Basildon man wanted in connection with an attempted burglary has been arrested following reports of theft at a BP Garage.

This comes after fifteen people were arrested across Essex on Tuesday, with three arrested in Basildon, two on suspicion of drug driving and another on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

A 39-year-old man from Basildon was spotted by officers in East Mayne and arrested following reports of a theft from a BP garage.

Officers searched him and found suspected drugs, subsequently taking him into custody on suspicion of theft and possession of Class A drugs.

Superintendent Phil Stinger said: “Our officers will find those we suspect of serious offences like sexual assault, burglary, and carrying weapons, and make sure they are arrested.

“We are also out across the county this week to make sure everyone can enjoy Halloween without disruption from a small minority of people that use it as an excuse to offend.

“We will be out in our towns and cities in the coming evenings, so if you need to report something please speak to us – we are here to help keep you safe.”

Police also stopped 91 vehicles and seized 10 of them for driving without insurance, and found and seized two knives while sweeping parks and open spaces.
