Southend Council has announce the launch of its annual Toy Drive for 2024, marking the eleventh year of this beloved community initiative.
Over the past decade, the Toy Drive has collected an impressive 35,800 donations, bringing joy to 15,275 children and young people in need.
This year, the council aims to reach even more young recipients, ensuring that no child goes without a gift this holiday season.
Running from today until December 13, 2024, the Toy Drive invites community members to donate new, unwrapped gifts, which will then be carefully sorted and wrapped by a team of dedicated volunteers, or “elves.”
These efforts ensure that every child receives a special present in time for the holidays, bringing festive cheer and warmth to local families.
Laurie Burton, councillor responsible for children, young people, and SEND, said: “Ho-ho, here we go - The Toy Drive is back and ready to spread joy once again.
"It is heartwarming to witness the incredible generosity of our community throughout the years.
"It is also wonderful to be supporting local toy shops, making Christmas magical for everyone.
"A huge thank you to everyone who has donated in the past.
"We are calling on your kindness once more to contribute to the Toy Drive 2024.
"Your donations will help create a special Christmas for vulnerable children and young people in our city."
People can donate new toys suitable for children up to the age of 17, vouchers for toys or days out, selection packs, stationery, and toiletry sets.
If batteries are needed for the toys, people are asked to include them with their donation.
Gifts can be purchased directly from Argosy Toys or Toys ‘n’ Tuck in-store and will be collected by the council.
People can also purchase gifts online from argosytoys.co.uk or toysntuck.co.uk, selecting the "Toy Drive" option for delivery.
Alternatively, donations can be delivered directly to the Civic Centre or The Forum by Friday, December 13.
