Beloved presenter Helen Chamberlain has revealed how she was nearly fired from Soccer AM because of Tim Lovejoy.

The Sky Sports duo worked together on the programme for years but their on-screen relationship did have its rocky moments.

Chamberlain made her Soccer AM debut all the way back in 1995 and spent 22 years presenting the sporting show before quitting in 2017.

While her time on the show was more than a decade longer than Lovejoy's, he nearly had her fired.

Helen Chamberlain reveals how she was nearly fired from Soccer AM by Tim Lovejoy

Speaking on the Soccer A-Z podcast, fellow stars Robbie Knox, Joe Worsley and Neil Smythe recounted their time on Soccer AM.

Knox said: "He [Lovejoy] offered the job to someone else before me," adding: "I went for an interview, you offered it to someone else. They couldn't start in time, so I got the job. I'm only here because someone else couldn't get out of their previous job."

According to The Sun, Chamberlain interrupted, telling everyone: "He was gonna sack me!"

She added: "Don't you remember? He took over Soccer AM, the first thing on his list: 'Don't need her, she doesn't do anything!'"

The Sky Sports star clearly hasn't held a grudge as she and Lovejoy have gone down in history as one of the best broadcasting duos in British history.

Lovejoy would go on to agree with the account, saying: "That is true," adding: "But it turned out Helen was brilliant!"

Soccer AM aired between August 1994 and May 2023.
