Two people from Basildon have been arrested after reports of a car being stolen in Rayleigh.
Essex Police were called to Daws Heath Road, shortly before 3:10am this morning.
This was following reports of attempts to steal a car.
Officers say the car was stolen before being abandoned a short distance away.
Police carried out a search of the area and later arrested two people in the High Street.
A 16 year-old boy and a 24 year-old man, both from Basildon, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of Class B or C drugs.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “Two people have been arrested thanks to the good work of officers responding to reports of attempts to steal a car in Rayleigh.
“A 16 year-old boy and a 24 year-old man, both from Basildon, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of Class B or C drugs.
“They are both currently in custody.”
