IMPROVEMENTS are already being made at a new all-girls orthodox Jewish school in Westcliff, inspectors have said, after it was ordered to improve in its first Ofsted inspection.
Inspectors have visited the Beis Chinuch Lebonos school, in North Road, Westcliff, after it was rated requires improvement by Ofsted in May this year.
The school opened to pupils in October last year and inspectors have now stated leaders have “moved at pace to address the unmet standards of the last inspection”.
Inspectors said: “The improvement journey to meeting the previous inspections’ recommendations is well-advanced.
“The proprietors, governors, and the school’s leadership team have achieved this through investment in resources, governor and staff training, and close monitoring of the delivery of the action plan.
“This includes addressing the recommended modifications in the action plan.
“The governing body has received training so that it clearly understands its role and responsibilities. It has recently expanded. It includes members who have areas of expertise in education.
“Thus, demonstrating the capacity to ensure that the independent school standards are met securely and consistently.”
The school, which provides education for 105 girls between the age of three and 11, was given the green light to open by Ofsted back in October 2023.
Parents pay £7,800 a year for their children to attend the new school in Westcliff.
The report added: “At the time of the previous inspection, teaching did not support pupils well to learn the intended curriculum.
“Staff have received training on how to adapt their lessons for the varying needs and abilities of pupils.
“There is a collective understanding of how to keep an eye on pupils in lessons.
“The use of weekly progress meetings is helping staff review pupils’ knowledge and understanding of the curriculum.”
Inspectors also praised the school for its safeguarding arrangements and how staff are “vigilant and suitably trained”.
The report states: “The school has a new version of their safeguarding policy which is available for parents.
“As part of their routine checks on the site, the governing body checks safeguarding procedures and staff’s adherence to the safeguarding policy.“
