TWO families from Billericay are undertaking a 5,000-squat challenge to raise funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease.
The Chapman and Gladwin families are completing 167 squats each per day in honour of Marilyn Chapman, who was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in July 2023.
The families are determined to support Marilyn, described by loved ones as “the strongest and kindest woman,” despite the severe progression of the disease, which now limits her ability to talk, eat, drink and walk.
Motor Neurone Disease is a rapidly progressing neurological disease affecting the brain and spinal cord, stripping individuals of their ability to control muscle movement, including essential functions like breathing.
The challenge has gained significant community support, raising more than £1,700 so far. Funds will go towards improving care and resources for those affected.
Both families say they are already “overwhelmed” by the support they have received so far.
