A SWIMMING pool has been closed for more than two weeks with bosses unable to say when it will reopen, sparking frustration from swimmers.

Belfairs Swim Centre, in Fairview Gardens, Leigh, suddenly closed the main pool for “emergency repairs” at the end of October.

Fusion Lifestyle, which runs the centre on behalf of Southend Council, said it was closed due to “unforeseen circumstances” but has been unable to confirm when it will reopen.

It has also been claimed that the smaller teaching pool has been shut since August.

Swimmers have shared their frustrations over the closure, claiming there has been a “lack of communication and care” for its members.

One regular user of the pool, a 30-year-old from Southend who wishes not to be named, said: “Fusion has not kept members in the loop about a possible reopening date, as well as not even mentioning what the issue is.

“We are frustrated by the lack of communication from Fusion and would like to know what is going on.

“We first noticed the teaching pool closed at around the end of August. I wasn’t affected by that as I only really use the main pool.

“But, just over two weeks ago, there was a message on the app to say the main pool is also now closed.

“I thought it would only be a day or two as sometimes that can happen, but we haven’t heard anything since.

“There is a lot of people frustrated, there is nothing to suggest when it will reopen or even the problem.

“I am fed up.”

The swimmer also raised concerns around the state of the facilities with “broken locks”, “damaged lockers”, and “broken showers”.

However, Fusion did not respond to these claims.

A spokesman for Fusion added: “We can confirm that Belfairs Swim Centre is currently closed for emergency repair work.

“This work is well under way, and we hope to be able to share a completion date very soon.”
