A MOUNTAIN of “rat-infested” rubbish has been dumped outside a Canvey home as residents plead for it to be removed as a matter of urgency.

Shocked residents have complained for two weeks after the mound of black bin bags and household waste appeared outside an empty home on Leigh Beck Lane.

According to those living nearby, the pile is “growing by the day” as more and more rubbish is dumped.

Castle Point Council has confirmed it is “aware of the issue” and working to resolve the issue.

Photographs taken by residents show a sprawling mound of open bin bags, stuffed IKEA storage bags and a range of discarded household goods.

More than 20 black bin bags can be identified in photos of the dumped waste, with white goods also visible.

The huge pile has attracted dozens of mice, rats and other wildlife, with residents describing its slow spillage on to the adjacent pavement, it has been claimed.

One reisdent, who has relatives living in the street, described the rubbish pile as “an eyesore and a danger”.

“It’s infested with mice and rats and is spilling out on to the pavement”.

They added: “It’s fortunate that it is so cold at the moment because otherwise the pile would be absolutely stinking.

“I’m very concerned that it could pose a risk to public health.”

The resident claims the issue has been repeatedly reported to the council and urged them to take action as soon as possible.

“I just think if one of them came to look at it, they’d see what a terrible problem it is.” they added.

The rubbish mountain has been reported to Castle Point’s environmental health department by residents.

Michael Fuller, Independent councillor for Canvey Island North Ward, said: “We are aware of the issue and we are working to resolve it as soon as possible.”
