We have compiled a list of the best places in Southend to enjoy your favourite baked goods, according to TripAdvisor.

With winter officially upon us, we have narrowed down the best bakeries in Southend where residents can get a sweet treat or a hearty loaf of bread.

These businesses all have something to offer to suit everyone’s tastes, and we have listed four for you to enjoy this weekend.

Wilma’s Bakery

High Street, Southend

This bakery opened in the city centre last month and has received rave reviews from customers for the excellent sweet treats and hot drinks they offer customers.

The branch offers a range of cakes, cupcakes, coffees and paninis, and is headed by husband-and-wife duo Gemma and Will Jones.

The location had a queue “out the door” when it opened and Gemma said business has been “crazy” since opening.

The business has also expanded their offering, with kids paninis, savoury croissants and flapjacks all being trialled as part its menu.

It is rated 4.5 stars on TripAdvisor.

Home Made Bakery

Broadway West, Leigh

The business sells all sorts of baked goods from sausage rolls to cakes, and has received great reviews from customers.

The bakery's website displays a collection of its most impressive baked goods, including its impressive themed cakes.

One TripAdvisor reviewer said: “Went to the home made bakery the other day for a sandwich and was served by a very pleasant and helpful member of staff.

“Every time I visit its always the same cheerful nothing is to much attitude. Highly recommend it.”

The bakery has a 4.5 star rating on TripAdvisor.

The Garrison Bakery

Shoebury High Street

This store boasts an immensely popular sandwich range, delicious coffee and a great atmosphere for its customers.

One reviewer on TripAdvisor said: “First time in Shoebury, lovely place. Happened across this bakery and everything looked fantastic.

“I chose the bread pudding and it was brilliant. The coffee was also very good. I’ll come again.”

The bakery has a TripAdvisor rating of 3.5.

Manners Way, Prittlewell

Bake Essex expanded to their Prittlewell site in February and has been very well-received by residents.

The store serves up freshly baked cakes, pastries, and bread, along with sandwiches made using ingredients largely from Essex-based suppliers.

One TripAdvisor review said: “Fantastic warm crusty rolls with bacon sausage etc. Great friendly quick efficient service.

“I have stopped going to the big American fast food place up the road and made a roll and a coffee from Bake part of morning routine. Quality food, and they have clearly spent on a high-quality interior and real coffee machine.”
