Armed police and bomb disposal units have been spotted at a housing estate in Pitsea, following reports of potential firearms at a property.
Essex Police say they have been carrying out enquiries at an address on St Michael’s Avenue, Pitsea, alongside specialist partners from the Ministry of Defence.
A man in his 40s has been taken into custody for questioning as investigations continue at the scene.
Residents in the area have described seeing both armed units and bomb teams at the scene.
A spokesman for Essex Police added: “Officers supported by specialist partners from the Ministry of Defence are carrying out enquiries at an address in Pitsea following intelligence received over potential firearms at the location.
"A man, aged in his 40s, from Pitsea, remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of a range of offences, including alleged firearms offences.
“Enquiries will be ongoing at the address throughout today.”
