AN MP has urged drivers to avoid a major road as traffic is building after reports of a crash.
Canvey Road is closed off between Waterside roundabout and Benfleet station, and motorists have been urged by Dame Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point, to keep the area clear for emergency services.
The road has been shut after reports of a crash involving two cars, which have been unconfirmed by emergency services at this stage.
A fire engine and multiple ambulances are on the scene by Benfleet bridge and the flood barrier, according to Dame Rebecca.
She said: "I have been informed about an incident on Canvey Road by Benfleet bridge and the flood barrier.
"There are multiple ambulances on the scene and traffic has been stopped both ways for the time being.
"My thoughts are with all those involved.
"Please share this with anyone you know who is planning to go on or off Canvey in the next hour so they can leave earlier and divert along Canvey Way and keep the area clear for the emergency services."
Traffic is building in the area as a result of the closure, including on Canvey Way and Somnes Avenue.
All emergency services have been contacted for comment.
