TEACHERS are celebrating a “good” rating at a Rayleigh primary school two years after it was ordered to make urgent improvements by Ofsted.
Glebe Primary School, on Creswick Avenue, received a “good” rating in every category after a two-day inspection on October 8 and October 9.
Back in 2022, the school received a “requires improvement” rating – the second lowest possible ranking – when concerns were raised “pupils do not learn as much as they should” and the school was asked to implement a more “ambitious” system of assessment.
Inspectors found the school has made a series of improvements and created a “welcoming environment” for pupils.
The report, published yesterday, stated: “Pupils are proud ambassadors of Glebe Primary School. The school is a welcoming and happy place. This means pupils enjoy attending school.
“Pupils enjoy positive working relationships with staff, who keep them safe.
“There are high expectations for pupils’ behaviour and achievement. Pupils rise well to these. Pupils enjoy learning and are ambitious to achieve well.”
At the time of the inspection, there were 383 pupils at the school, all aged between three and 11 years.
Inspectors also praised the “ambitious curriculum”.
The report added: “Leaders have planned an ambitious curriculum from nursery through to Year 6. They aim to take pupils ‘on a journey of learning, growth, and endless possibilities’.
“Pupils enjoy lessons and can talk in detail about the things they have learned. Teachers adapt teaching effectively for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, including the deaf pupils who attend the school, so they can access the same ambitious curriculum.”
Martyn Clarke, headteacher at the school, said: “This significant achievement reflects the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of our entire school community.
“As headteacher of Glebe Primary, I am incredibly proud of this outcome, which underscores the commitment of our staff, the support of our families, and the enthusiasm of our children.
“This positive outcome reflects the collective effort and commitment of everyone involved in our school, from staff and governors to parents, carers, and of course, our incredible children.
“We would like to express our thanks to all members of the Glebe community for their continued support.”
