MORE than 200 vehicle parts have been discovered during a raid at a Basildon home as part of a moped theft probe.

Police officers attended the property in Great Knightleys yesterday where they found the parts across several rooms, as part of enquiries into a stolen moped taken from Brentwood on Sunday.

A 48-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were arrested at the address on suspicion of theft of vehicles.

They both currently remain in custody while police continue their enquiries.

District Commander, Chief Inspector Dan McHugh said: “We’ll continue our work to identify those involved in the theft of vehicles or vehicle parts, to protect the property of rightful owners.

“We want to drive down vehicle crime, so we’d ask the public to help us with this important issue.

“If you know who is dealing in stolen cars or vehicle parts, please contact us so we can take the appropriate action.”

Crimestoppers have launched a new campaign in Essex encouraging people to give information anonymously about those responsible for vehicle theft.

The focus is to raise awareness of vehicle crime, to prevent it from happening and to encourage the public to pass on what they know while staying completely anonymous, by contacting the independent charity on 0800 555 111.

Alternatively, anyone with any information can contact police on 101 or by submitting a report on the Essex Police website at essex.police.uk.
