A cannabis farm has been discovered by police at an address in south Essex as two men have been arrested.
Officers were called shortly before 5.30am this morning following reports of a cannabis farm in an industrial unit in Hurricane Way, Wickford.
When officers attended, they found 500 plants and hydroponic equipment.
Two men who were at the location when police arrived have been arrested on suspicion of the cultivation of cannabis.
The pair, aged 24 and 39, remain in police custody for questioning.
Police officers, from Basildon local policing team, currently remain at the scene while the building is made safe.
District commander Paul Hogben said: “We quickly attended the location to secure the evidence and take robust action.
"We found around 500 cannabis plants at various stages of growth in five out of the six rooms at the location.
"The electricity had also been by-passed showing this was a sophisticated set up.
"But we are thankful for the public’s support, for telling us about it.
"It means we can ensure these drugs don’t hit the streets and threaten the safety of our community.
"I would encourage anyone who knows of those dealing in drugs to contact us.”
