A NEW cafe offering a unique mix of traditional English and Polish dishes to customers has opened in Westcliff.
Aleksandra Szkurłat and her husband Krzysztof Szkurłat, have opened Be My Guest on Hamlet Court Road, replacing the former Green Oasis Jerk Chicken take-away.
The cafe offers a range of English breakfast foods, salads and steaks alongside traditional Polish sausages and dumplings.
After previously owning Top Kitchen Coffee, in Hamlet Court Road, Aleksandra believes she has the experience to make the cafe a success and the cafe already going down well with customers after opening two weeks ago.
She said: “There are not any Polish food options in Hamlet Court Road. This is a first here for the street and I used to run a cafe on the same street for a year but it was sold and luckily I found somewhere here.
“Our prices are the best on the street and I try and use good quality products. We don’t do anything cheap and I think that customers appreciate that and the high standards.
“People are coming in here. Many people have tried our dumplings and they like them. It is often the first time for them and we have had meat and vegetarian options. There is something for everyone.”
Aleksandra added that she aims to try and expand the cafe’s range in the future by applying for an alcohol licence and offering wines and cocktails that would “go nice with the salads.”
She added: “I know standards and I am getting my first regular customers, it looks posh and it looks different.
“I like to talk to people. I am a chef and I am in the kitchens, but I try and go to every table and speak to customers and take their feedback.”
Aleksandra and her husband renovated the former Green Oasis takeaway themselves, moving the furniture and redecorating themselves.
The business threw open its doors two weeks ago and will be taking part in business group Hamlet Court Calling’s Festive Friday today at 4pm.
