A LATE-night Christmas shopping event is coming to Leigh with dozens of traders joining together to stay open for longer and offer discounts to shoppers.
In total, 36 Leigh traders have signed up to the event to help the area “come alive with festive cheer” and offer exclusive discounts, festive refreshments and a “warm holiday atmosphere.
Participating businesses across Leigh Road, Broadway, Broadway West, Rectory Grove and Elm Road will all take part next Thursday, staying open until 9pm rather than 6pm.
Gemma Simpson, owner of Other Kids, and co-organiser is thrilled about the event.
She said: “This is the perfect chance to support the incredible independent businesses that make Leigh so special.
“You’ll find stunning, one-of-a-kind gifts while enjoying the festive spirit of our community.
“Come and grab something beautiful and help keep our high streets thriving.”
Claire Jeavons, owner at Store Thirty3 and 110 Yards has worked closely with other Leigh retailers to launch the late night Christmas shopping event.
She added: “Leigh is such an amazing place to own a business, we have the best customers who really enjoy shopping independent, finding clothing, homeware, gifts and so much more that you don’t find on the high street or online.
“Everyone taking part is hoping for a busy evening of shopping, socialising and enjoying the very best of all we have to offer.”
Totally Locally Leigh founder, David Elcock, who helps organise events to promote the areas small businesses has emphasised the difference it would make to spend money in independent stores this Christmas.
He said: “We love independent towns and vibrant High Streets and they only exist if people spend money in them ultimately.
“When you spend in them, it stays in the town but when you spend at larger multinational chains, it leaves the area and I would say, even if some people spend money at Christmas in our stores, it will go a long way.”
